VOCABULARY UNIT -8

PERSONALITY ADJETIVES

Jealous: full of a feeling of resentment or anger about someone's success, achievements, advantages.
Competitive: relating to competition.
Vain: overly proud of or concerned about one's own appearance, qualities, achievements.
Lazy: unwilling to work or perform effort, activity, or exertion; indolent
Proud: feeling pleasure or satisfaction over something thought of as bringing credit or honor to oneself
Stubborn: unreasonably unwilling to change; unyielding.

PHRASAL VERBS: 

I get on well with my parents most of the time and I think we have a good relationship . When
I have a problem, they are the first people that I turn to for help. For
example, if people at school pick on me, they will always be very sensitive and
helpful. My parents also put up with me when I´m moody or lazy. Luckily, we
don´t fall out very often, but when we do, we make up and forget about it
quickly! I really look up to them and respect them, but there´s one thing that
really annoys me. My mum always tells me off when I do something wrong, even for
small things like leaving my shoes in the wrong place. The worst thing is that
she tells me off in front of my friends . It´s so embarrassing.What should I do?

Bargain: something that is good value or it's a discount.
Soap Opera: TV, radio: drama serial.
Brand: Make, trademark.
Union Jack: United Kingdom national flag.
Newsagent's: Shop that sells newspapers and sweets.
Afford: you can pay something.
Waste: use inefficently.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

• In this therm at English class I've learned a lot of new things. Before, I didn't know the meaning and spelling of some words (confident, plot, homeless, to shovel snow...) and now, in Michael and Isabel's classes I know a lot of new volcabulary that is very usefull. I like most of the classes, but I think that my favourite one it's when we talked about "Black Friday" with Michael. I love languages, but English specially, and I think that my best part of it, is to compare things. Outside english class I talk with an american friend on Internet. Also I,ve talk with a french one when we don't know how to say a word in french or in spanish. I need to improve in the new irregular verbs, because I have to study them a little bit more. In these months I've learned a lot of culture of every place, like Ireland, America... etc And it's very interesting what foreign people do traditionally. 

IRELAND

1. There are 4.530.000 million people
2. Its capital  are  Dublin and Belfast.
3. At Blarney Castle, near Cork, there is an old stone in the tower.
4. According to a legend, the stone has magic powers and thousand of people kiss the stone each year 
5. Ireland it´s divided into two different parts: Northen Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
6. Some famous singers and writers were born in Ireland.
7. Molly Malone tells the history of a girl who sold fish on streets of Dublin but de died very young.
8. 24 million of people and 45 countries has enjoyed the riverance show.

SPANISH RULES

Hi! I'm going to explain you some of the sules that we have to follow here, in Spain:

1. You mustn't vote until you are 18 years old.
2. You can get piercings or tattos at any age with yours parent's permission.
3. You can't drive a car until you are 18 years old too.
4. You can leave your home with 16 years old if your parents agree.
5. You mustn't drink alcohol until you are 18 years old.
6. You should go to the school until you are 16.
7. You can smoke starting with 18 years old.

• BITE: We do it for eat.
• FIGHT BACK: Atack after anyone has hits to you.
• STAND STILL: Don´t move.
• SHY: Nervous and uncomfortable with other people. 

AUSTIN: the half deaf man.

In music class, we talked about a text. It's about a deaf boy named Austin, who one day in his doctor's office, to test a new hearing aid, began to hear all the sounds that overwhelmed the room. He decided that he would spend a big part of his days listening to music, since for him it had always been a mystery: from why people move wildly with her, to the emotions she produces.
He searched  full of emotion about the music and all the types of it that exist. First came the Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody), Frank Sinatra (Fly me to the moon), Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Sigur Rós, Elvis, Radiohead and The Beatles. (that surprisingly were of the last.)
He always tells when he first listened to his first piece: Mozart's Lacrimosa. From that moment, he couldn't stop listening to music, although he adds that the best sound, which will never be replaced, will always silence ... He loves to listen to that mixture of rhythmic and catchy sounds, but he misses the complete silence! Ironic, right?

Last day, Ana (Our music teacher)put us a video. Is incredible. We think that just hearing things repeatedly since when we are practically babies, we end up learning to listen and relate, but: what would you do if you will listen that someone deaf could do it? Evelyn Glennie is a woman who can tell you honestly, since she was deaf at the age of 12. She stars in a video in which he explains it. You will be amazed when you see it. See you around!!

CARDBOARD:

It's a kind of paper, but more hard and resistant.

SILVER:

It's a metal that is very expensive.

WOOL:

Is a soft and warm cloth that comes out of the sheepskin.

LEATHER:

Skin of the animals after prepared for the different uses in the industry.

CAN:

Container made from tinplate for soft drinks.

TIN:

Container made from tinplate too for canned food.

Is the action that serves to collect something.

Drop:

Is when you let something fall that is held by you.

Fountain:

Is a type of tube that is usually in construction works.

Pavement:

It's the part os the street where pedestrians walk.

Fake:

It's the opposite of true.

STARTER UNIT- VOCABULARY

• Windshield wiper: It is the object that is on the cristal of the car. What it does is clean it.
• Getting off the bus:  It is when you go to the street after end your trip on the bus.
• To browse the Internet: It's the same to: "To surf the Internet".
• Tracksuit: It's a suit to make sports more confortable.
• Upload: It's the  opposite to download.
